Equality

If two things are worth the same, we say they are 'equal'
The symbol for equals ('=') is quite new to mathematics. Many of the greatest mathematicians in history: Pythagoras, Euclid, Archimedes, Fibonacci, ... never even saw the equals sign because it hadn't been invented.
The invention of the equals sign is credited to Robert Recorde, a Welshman, in 1557 - just after the time of King Henry the Eighth.
In this unit you will learn how to use this important little symbol.

Yarnell's (unfinished) World of Maths is available as a web 'app' for iOS. Probably works on other small screen devices too.
The app contains text, images and video clips designed to help with GCE revision. To get it...
- Tap here. You should see the app on your screen
- On iPhone/iPod Touch, tap the box with an arrow coming out of it (bottom of screen - I've no idea what Apple call this icon)
- Tap "Add to Home Screen", then tap "Add"
- The "app" takes almost no memory because it is really just a link to a website that behaves like a real app. The advantages of this include easier updates (you don't need to download anything), I can bypass Apple's police and the web app has the same content as my desktop site
Feedback is key to everything I do with this site. I get a lot of comments on the individual clips on youtube but it is not clear whether these people use Yarnell's World of Maths or just access clips via youtube searches. Let me know your opinion or what you would like to see added by using the forum on the left of this page.
